FAQ
Torrbollen
Where should I pour the liquid when changing the refill?
Pour the liquid down the drain. This does not pose an environmental risk. Preferably avoid liquid contact with metal as there is a risk of rusting if it is not rinsed off.
How long does the Torrbollen Original absorber last?
It all depends on how humid it is and how big your refill bag is. In general, one can say that a refill bag of 450 grams is enough for 1-3 months in a space of 12-14m². This can vary depending on the size of the moisture absorber you use, location and the surface and area of the space.
What do you do if you spill Torrbollens Original´s liquid on, for example, florrs or carpets?
Dry up and wash off with lukewarm water. Repeat if necessary.
Does the moisture absorber work in freezing temperatures?
Torrbollen moisture absorber works right down to 0°C, but at freezing temperatures the function ceases because there is no moisture. When it gets back up to plus degrees, Torrbollen starts again to devour moisture.
Why does the refill bag sometimes become hard?
Once the flakes in the fiber cloth bag are saturated with water and the moisture in a space ceases, they solidify and dry together and the bag becomes hard. When the moisture returns, the process starts again and the flakes turn into liquid and flow into the container. You therefore do not have to throw away your bag if its contents have solidified.
What happens if the product comes into contact with skin or eyes?
The product contains calcium chloride 75-99 %. CAS 10043-52-4, EC no. 233-140-8. Causes serious corrosive damage to skin and eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water for several minutes. Seek medical attention.
Sharkbite
Can Sharkbite products be used on soft, untreated plastics?
Most plastic covers on outboards and drives are coated, and therefore there is no problem using Sharkbite Barnacle Remover. However, some drives have untreated molded soft plastic at the waterline, for example Mercury Verados. These cannot tolerate any type of acid during cleaning. This applies to all products containing acid, regardless of brand. A reaction may occur which in the worst case can cause discoloration, bleaching, or visible marks on the plastic if an acidic product is left on too long or not rinsed off thoroughly. Mercury recommends only mechanical cleaning with a light polishing cleaner. More information can be found in Mercury’s instruction manuals. If you are unsure about your plastic cover, contact your engine or drive supplier.
Sharkbite Barnacle Remover is an extremely effective agent for dissolving limescale in barnacles and sea growth. Thanks to its modified acid, it is gentler to the user and the environment than any competitor. To get the job done, some form of acid is required. There is no other way except fully mechanical cleaning by scraping, scrubbing, sanding, or polishing.
Sharkbite works on all boats and drives: gelcoat, wood, steel and even on aluminum (although one should always be careful with acid on aluminum and test on a small area first). Generally, there are never any issues with outboards and drives, as almost all have coated surfaces, and therefore can be cleaned with acid.
Can I use Sharkbite on my inflatable boat/RIB boat?
There are different types of PVC, plastic, and rubber commonly used on inflatable and RIB boats. The material composition determines whether Sharkbite may affect the surface more or less. As a general rule, Sharkbite does not affect inflatable boats/PVC. Theoretically, some soft trims and gaskets could be affected if not rinsed properly, but we have never experienced this. We have cleaned many RIB, PVC and lower-priced rubber boats with Sharkbite without issues, and we have never heard of any problems. All of our laboratory tests show that it is safe to use Sharkbite on rubber and PVC as long as the product is rinsed off thoroughly afterwards. For safety, test on a small area first and ensure proper rinsing so the product does not remain active on the surface.
Can I use Sharkbite on the drive, aluminum, anodes, bellows and similar parts?
Your question regarding Sharkbite on aluminum, drives, bellows, etc., is justified. There are many different metals, plastics, and other materials involved. We have used Sharkbite and cleaned many drives and aluminum boats with excellent results. Sharkbite works well on gelcoat, metals, and many other surfaces. However, caution should be taken with untreated plastics and galvanized metal. The product is acidic and therefore corrosive. Some untreated plastics may react with unwanted marks, and aluminum alloys may change sheen/color afterwards. Using Sharkbite Barnacle Remover or similar acidic cleaners on untreated plastics or galvanized surfaces may cause reactions and discoloration. This applies to all acidic products regardless of brand. Normal sea water, lake water, and acidic rainwater also affect aluminum surfaces through a slower chemical reaction. Our experience shows that you must rinse the product thoroughly when finished. If not rinsed properly, the product may over time (for example over the winter) cause oxidation or even corrosion. If rinsed properly after use, nothing will happen to the metal. The same principle applies to plastic, rubber, silicone and similar materials (bellows). Always test on a small area first to learn the reaction time and working method. If unsure, contact your engine or trailer supplier.
There are as many aluminum alloys as there are aluminum boat manufacturers. Therefore we cannot guarantee how your specific alloy will appear when finished. It will become clean and may look new and possibly take on a sheen or tone you have not seen before. This will fade after a few weeks and the metal will return to a slightly more matte finish. You will observe this reaction on the test area. It is similar to the effect of aluminum polish. There is no reason to worry and you can rely on Sharkbite Barnacle Remover as long as you rinse the product off when finished. We always recommend testing on a small area first to avoid surprises.
Can I use Sharkbite on bronze?
We have cleaned a number of bronze propellers with Sharkbite and the results were excellent according to us and the owners. Sharkbite does not corrode the metal more than any other substrate, but bronze may take on a different sheen, color or variation afterwards. Normal seawater, lake water and acidic rainwater also affect bronze through a slower chemical process. If you are sensitive to possible changes in appearance or shine, test on a small area first and evaluate the result before proceeding.
How should I store my remaining Sharkbite? Can I leave the bottle outside in the cold in a shed, garage, or boathouse over winter?
No. Sharkbite should be stored warm, not below +10°C. If the bottle is exposed to cold, the active ingredient may crystallize, reducing effectiveness, and crystals may clog the spray trigger tube.
Will Sharkbite wash away or damage my antifouling?
No. Sharkbite does not attack or affect antifouling paint. Both tests and long-term experience confirm this. We have not had any reports of Sharkbite damaging or removing antifouling coatings. However, high-pressure washing or detergents may affect some antifouling types, especially abrasive ones. If such effects occur after using Sharkbite followed by cleaning with shampoo, the assumption might wrongly be that Sharkbite caused it. Always rinse thoroughly after use so the product does not remain active unnecessarily. Test on a small area first.
My boat is on a galvanized trailer and I will use Sharkbite on the boat. It will run down onto the trailer. Will this affect the trailer?
This is a valid concern since there are many different metals and materials used on trailers. We have cleaned many boats on trailers (most of them). Depending on the trailer type, alloy and whether the surface is coated or not, reactions may vary. In some cases nothing is visible, in other cases the sheen or surface tone may change. The product is acidic and therefore corrosive. Normal seawater, lake water or acidic rainwater also affects trailer metal, but more slowly. We always make sure to rinse off the product from the trailer when the cleaning is done. If not rinsed properly, the product may over time cause oxidation and even corrosion. If rinsed thoroughly after use, nothing will happen apart from a possible slight shift in sheen. The same principle applies to plastics and rubber on the trailer. Always test on a small area first. Using Sharkbite Barnacle Remover on untreated galvanized surfaces may cause reactions and discoloration.
Is Sharkbite toxic or environmentally friendly?
Sharkbite is environmentally friendly as it is based on the same acid naturally found in rhubarb, is water-soluble and quickly biodegradable. Sharkbite does not have long-term negative effects on the environment. If the product runs onto grass, the grass may partly die and then grow back quickly.
Can Sharkbite Barnacle Remover really remove all barnacles and sea growth?
Yes, it can, both on hulls, drives and propellers. Thanks to the spray function, it reaches areas that are otherwise difficult to access. The product works very well on barnacles attached to most metals and other surfaces. The suction cup or “ring” left behind may be harder to remove, but usually dissolves after a second application. The effect is much stronger if sprayed on dry barnacles and when the temperature is higher.
How do I clean barnacles from the boat?
As always when cleaning with chemicals, test on a small area first to avoid surprises. Rinse the boat and affected surfaces with high pressure to remove growth and loose barnacles. Let the surface and barnacles dry. Spray one area at a time, preferably directly on dry barnacles. Allow 3–5 minutes depending on visible results. Scrub or scrape lightly, then rinse thoroughly and let dry. Repeat the process if needed. If results are not satisfactory, it may be due to temperature. The colder it is, the longer the reaction time required. Allow the product to work a few extra minutes if needed. When finished, rinse thoroughly with water.
I have a lot of limescale on tiles and in my shower and regular cleaners do not help. Can I use Sharkbite to remove it?
Yes. Note that the product is not intended specifically for bathroom use, but it can dissolve limescale. Both Sharkbite Waterline Cleaner and Sharkbite Barnacle Remover remove limescale, the latter more aggressively. Ensure good ventilation and work on a small area at a time. For best results, use warm water to heat the tile surface, which speeds up the reaction. Always test on a small area first and ensure that the product is thoroughly rinsed off so it does not remain active unnecessarily.

Luftrenare
How does Torrbollen Luftrenare work?
Torrbollen Luftrenare prevents the emergence of bacteria and mold and is packaged in an airtight plastic cylinder. It has a perforated inner seal. When the can is opened and comes into contact with air, the antiseptic characteristics of the oil are released and will slowly evaporate.
How should the container be placed?
The benefit of Torrbollen Luftrenare is that it can be placed anywhere as long as it is on a flat surface.
How long will Torrbollen Luftrenare work?
The gel is usually active for 60-90 days, but also has a preventive effect for up to 45 days after the container is empty and the contents have evaporated. After that, it is recommended to invest in a new Luftrenare to continue the process.
For best effect use according to the following:
- Shock effect (2-3 days): open the container and remove the “STOP ODOR” mark completely.
- Standard effect (up to 30 days): open the container but leave the “STOP ODOR” mark on.
- Maintenance (up to 90 days): open the container but leave the “STOP ODOR” mark on after the air has been purified.
Does the gel leave any scent?
While Torrbollen Luftrenare is active, the air is perceived as clean. There is no added fragrance or smell. No hiding effect and no perfumes, just fresh and clean air. The benefits of the product compared to other brands is that it attacks and neutralizes the bacteria that causes the bad smell instead of hiding them with chemical additives.
What areas of use exists for Torrbollen Luftrenare?
Torrbollen Luftrenare is designed to do the job in several places. Here are some suggestions:
- In the home, it provides a better indoor climate. Place it in rooms that are perceived to smell bad. Luftrenare neutralizes the smell and increases the feeling of well-being. Place your air purifier in the tech room, the laundry room or the ventilation space, for example.
